Grandpas Chair

Grandpa's Chair

This is composed from two photographs, one of the boy, my son, and the other a buildng at Phelp's Mill. I wanted it to suggest a story concerning that empty chair and the boy with a quizzical bend to his body. The challenge was blending the two photos as well as the wide range of light to dark. The perspective of the bricks gave me some head ache too. The colors used are only blue, raw sienna, black and white. I underpainted the blue and sienna, then overpainted the white and black. It was done in acrylic and is very large. I wanted the large size to make the viewer feel like stepping into the image.
