Schoolyard Fight

While substitute teaching I was sometimes given playground duty. I enjoyed seeing the colorful coats against the bright white snow. I enjoyed how they seemed to get smaller and more muted as they receded. I couldn't take photographs of the kids, so I assembled images from the internet using keywords. I didn't paint the faces for two reasons. I didn't want to identify the kids and I wanted the body language to communicate what was going on. While teaching I also have also noticed that there is at least one person in the class who knows what should be going on and feels compelled to take the teacher to task for allowing anything else. It's usually a girl. So there is that figure on the right addressing the teacher, who is the viewer, standing on the steps. You can't see the viewer because it's you! She is saying what are you going to do about this!!? The two side panels show more directly what is really going on in the schoolyard. Since kids are people too, what goes on there is much like adult society on a small scale.
