Shining Pots
This is a commissioned work and prints are available for purchase. The original is 48” X 60” hanging in Bethel Seminary. It is based on the Bible scripture, 2 Cor. 4:6-18 “For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness” —He has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ. Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us..."
There were many challenges with this work. First was composing an image with the elements the committee required. I used a pot we had moved back with us from Kenya. Another was to depict theological meaning. Notice that the cross seems to be coming in the clouds, yet seems to be just above the pot. It depicts that the kingdom of God is coming, but already is here in the hearts of people who believe in Jesus. His glory shines out of believers, even through their cracks, their weaknesses. It shines out onto the world, where otherwise all they would do is cast shadows. Judgment and grace all in one painting!
